We hope you enjoyed our performance of Born in a Barn. It was great fun to perform!
Classes 5 and 6 began this half term by finding out about the Gunpowder Plot. We explored who some of the key plotters were and why they felt the need to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Then we learnt what happened in the days leading up to the discovery of the plot; and finally we had a fabulous end-of-unit history day in which we explored how Bonfire Night celebrations have changed over time. We made our own ‘Guys’, created fabulous firework paintings and had a go at writing using a feather and ink, just as Guy Fawkes would have done.
We enjoyed having Lakshmi, the dentist visit us. She told us how important it is to keep our teeth clean and showed us the right way to clean our teeth. We found out what would happen to our teeth if we don’t look after them. She read us a story called ‘Open Wide, Look Inside’ which was a fun way to find out what happens to the germs in our mouth if we don’t clean our teeth properly.
We had fun trying to clean the ‘sugar bugs’ off a laminated sheet with a toothbrush. We then looked at photos of lots of different foods and had to decide which food and drinks were good for our teeth and which were bad.
We enjoyed our visit from the dentist and are grateful for her time. We loved the ‘goody’ bag she gave each of us to take home.
We had a super maths day where we dressed in 'maths themed clothing', practised telling the time and took part in maths-related PE activities.
To start our new writing topic on instructions, we followed the recipe to make a banana and strawberry smoothie. We all tasted it and most of us thought it was delicious! We then learnt all about the features of recipes and we planned and wrote our own recipe to make a disgusting smoothie. That was lots of fun.
Year 2 were in charge of leading the harvest worship. We shared some of our favourite fruits and vegetables and thought about how all the different colours make up a harvest rainbow. This reminded us of the rainbow in the bible and God's promise to us.
