Year 3 Events 24/25

Spring 2025

Our trip to the Roman Baths

Year 3 had a fantastic day at the Roman Baths! We spent the morning at the educational centre where we took part in brilliant activities learning all about the Romans and how they used to live. We then spent the rest of the day touring the museum and visiting the famous Roman Bath. We took many pictures throughout the day so I have uploaded them in albums for you to look at.

Educational centre

First, we took part in 3 different activities.

Activity 1: Dressing up like a Roman!

We learned that romans used to wear either a Toga or a Tunic – both were made out of a large piece of cloth that they wore. We then were given the opportunity to dress up.

Activity 2: Mosaics

Back in the roman times, they didn’t have rugs or carpets. The only way they could decorate was with mosaic patterns. We looked at lots of examples and then we were allowed to have a go ourselves.

Activity 3: Artefacts

Our leader (James) talked to us about lots of different artefacts from the Roman times. We learned about the Roman baths and why it was used. We learned that this is where people used to come to keep themselves clean. Romas thought it was important to keep clean so they wouldn’t become ill. James showed us some tools they used to help them clean themselves – this included tweezers to pluck their hairs and a tool that they used to scrape the sweat and dirt off of themselves. James also showed us bricks that were found underneath the floors in the baths. This was because they lit fires underneath the floors – the romans were the first ones to invent underfloor heating!

As a school, we were allowed special access to the tunnels that run underneath the Roman baths! Down here, we completed further tasks.

Activity 4: Digging like an archaeologist

James explained that we know a lot about the romans and about how they lived because Archaeologists have since dug up and found lots of things that help us to understand how they lived. We were given the task to use a trowel and a brush to dig up and find replica artefacts!

Activity 5: Working together like the Romans!

James explained that the romans worked together to build amazing structures – some that still exist today. Working as a team, we built an archway from bricks without any cement or glue! We also used a crane to help us to build a tower.

The tour

We spent the rest of the day exploring the museum. We had lots of fun using the handsets and listening to the information.

The best sight of all was of course, the famous Roman Bath!

Autumn 2024

Our Christmas Party

We had lots of fun at our Christmas party today! We all wore our best party clothes and we made party hats to wear.

Class 8 became Authors!

This half term we have read the story ‘The Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. We have enjoyed this book especially as we have been learning all about the Stone Age in our History lessons. In our English lessons, we have learned how to structure a narrative using paragraphs. We then planned and wrote our own narrative based on the story of The Stone Age Boy.  The children thought about the original narrative and then changed the title, the animal that they encounter and the character they make friends with. The stories were fantastic and we are very proud to publish them on our website for you all to read.

Re-creating Stone Henge

This half term we have been learning all about the Stone Age. We learned about Stone Henge and how work began there back in the Stone Age. After learning lots about it, the children were then given the task of re-creating Stone Henge using custard creams! We thoroughly enjoyed this task and the results looked amazing!

Maths Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our maths day last week. We had fun dressing up with numbers on our clothes – look how fantastic we looked! We then had a day of maths activities that we enjoyed.

Year 2 - 2023-24

Summer 2 2024

Trip to Axe Valley Wildlife Park

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Axe Valley Wildlife Park. It was the perfect link to our topic of living things and their habitats as well as our topic of Africa and the animals that live there.  We were met by Catherine who talked to us about the different animals that live in Africa.  We were then able to get up-close and even hold some animals, including a stick insect, millipede, bearded dragon, tortoise and python.  We were very brave!  We had time to explore the wildlife park and enjoyed seeing the many different animals that live there.

Author Visit

Classes 5 and 6 were really excited to welcome the author and illustrator Mike Brownlow to Holy Trinity today.  He spoke to each class about his books and demonstrated how to draw some of his well-known characters which all the children had a go at copying.  We also enjoyed listening to him read two of his stories.

Spirituality Day

The theme of our spirituality day was prayer.  The children found out a lot of about different types of prayer during the day and after a walk outside to look at all the signs of nature, shared 'thank you' prayers.  Both classes even learnt to sign the Lord's Prayer in Makaton.

Spring 1 2024

People and Places Day

The children found out about James Cook and his voyage to Australia. They enjoyed created their own Aboriginal-inspired dot paintings.

World Explorers Topic

Classes 5 and 6 have been busy making their own globes out of paper-mache.

Autumn 2023

Christmas Nativity - Born in a Barn

We hope you enjoy these pictures from our production of Born in a Barn.  We had a great time performing.

Caterpillars and Butterflies!

We were excited that five caterpillars came to live in each class.  They had their own special pot to live in and we watched them grow bigger and turn into chrysalides.  We moved them into the chrysalis station inside the butterfly net and after two weeks they turned into butterflies.  It was really exciting to watch them fly away – although they were in a bit of a hurry and flew away before we could photograph them!
